Re: HobbyTech Buggy EPX2 1/8 tt
I have purchased 2 of these buggies in the first week of march this year (2015) They are a lot of fun, running 4s lipo's in both vehicles.
Unfortunately both motors have failed with in a couple of weeks of use, one is a overheat... no warranty and the second looks like a seized bearing and has been sent back for warranty claim.
All the tires separated from the rims with in the first battery pack... not really happy about this, ended up buying some LOSI rims and tires to replace the factory ones.
Please check your diff mesh... all 4 diffs have failed very very quickly as they are not set up properly form factory. I have also put in a warranty claim for them which was approved yesterday to get the pinions replaced.
I am in Australia.
Here is a link to a thread about my diffs.
http://www.ultimaterc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=221059
http://www.rctech.net/forum/electric-off-road/869162-diff-mesh-problem.html
I am generally very happy with this cars performance. At this point Hobbytech have steeped up and helped with good customer service for the diffs, waiting to see what happens with the Brush less motor. PLEASE keep a temp gauge handy and double check you motor temps. They are running a 13t spur and 46T crown wheel here.
We get 90 days warranty here. They have a nice list of upgrade parts as well.
NOTE: The center diff crown wheel eats through the side of the battery case....

My spider gears have only a little grease in them, the outer diff area (crown/ pinion area) was totally dry. The crown / pinion alignment was not even close, not shimmed correctly. I am know aware of another car that has the same issue as mine, huge amount of back lash on the pinion.
Moon how many battery packs have you put through your car? And do you use it on dirt track / jumps etc...? I do really like the EPX2 set-up, and the way it handles around a track. They are a mid price car here in Australia, $500 Aus, compared to a HPI Vorza at $850 Aus.
So good value for money if they don't have any issues.

Re: HobbyTech Buggy EPX2 1/8 tt
moon in response to your original question about a little more speed, they have a 13t spur Mod1 from factory. By my calculations they have 1:1.18 roll out ratio. This with 4s lipo give you a max speed of 62 Kph if you add rolling resistance it will be less then this.
I have found that here in Australia on a 25 to 30 deg day that the set up is on the limit temp wise for general bashing around a track. By the end of a 15min run the motor is in the mid 70 deg temp range. So if you try a 14t spur keep a careful eye on motor temps.
Here is a pic of our 2 cars, one is my sons and one is mine.

All good Moon, I do not quiet understand you last sentence as "Google Translate" dose not translate it properly.
Is that a 150amp ESC?
I have upgraded to this motor http://www.skyrc.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=39&product_id=149
But I do need to go to a 150amp ESC, this will also allow me to run 6s lipo battery.
I run a 14t spur with the SKYRC motor.
How do you find the hobbytech Quicrun motor? Do you run a cooling fan / heat sink on the motor?

Re: HobbyTech Buggy EPX2 1/8 tt
That is great to see those temps that low, what kind of surface to you run the car on?
Will have to make a set of the rear guards, that is a great idea.
I am using the LOSI Pioneers... http://www.onestoprchobbies.com.au/Louies-B-PIONEER-1/8th-Buggy-Tyre-Mounted
I have just tried re gluing the factory hobbytech tyres and rims, will try them again. They where quiet a grippy tyre for the type of surface we drive on.
I notice you dont have the Shocky covers on, Did yours come like that?

Re: HobbyTech Buggy EPX2 1/8 tt
Motor mount upgrade time.
New motor mount arrived for each buggy today, so set about fitting up my son’s new motor and motor mount. This allows for changing / adjustment of the spur without having to take all the electrics off.
While I was in there I wondered whether I could use the old mount to replace the plastic centre diff mount. I cut the side bracket of the original motor mount and fitted it up, It all fitted in just nicely
Only difference is that the top screws for the switch mount are half a hole out.
I have also started to tighten up the front end suspension adjustment areas, they have a lot of slop in them. I have put an alloy washer either side of the top control arm mount to hub. Also shimmed the front hub bearings to remove a lot of slop from them.

Re: HobbyTech Buggy EPX2 1/8 tt
So is that still the EPX2 or the spirit model, your diff housings are totally different. your photos of the rear sway bar, that is totally different diff housing to mine.
I like the rear spoiler and carbon towers, that is very neat. I have thought about getting the upgraded shocks, but I don't not race I only use it for bashing.
I like the CVD shafts, I have ordered the upgrade set for my center diff. Also I see your rear diff has CVD drive shafts, did you just order a set of fronts and use them in the back?
Can you type in English, I can not find a good program to translate French very well.
I have also ordered the CVD cover boots.
Do you order your parts online or from your local RC shop?
If online can you provide a link please.

moon you seen these?
http://www.powerracing-modelisme.com/hobby-tech/10196-hobbytech-etriers-porte-fuse-aluminium-str8-factory-strs-045.html
I have been playing around with the plastic ones seeing if I can get rid of the slop in the bushing... I managed to get a bearing top and bottom.

Yes looked at the Imodel site, that is a good site. Unfortunately they don't list the STRS-045's that would of been a bonus.
